A late medieval (15th century) padded jack. This jack is made in heavy weight white linen, and is lined in a lighter weight of white linen. The stuffing of wool fleece is held in place by hundreds of hand made knots. The puffed sleeves are heavily stuffed with more of the wool fleece. Below the puffs, the sleeves are padded with layers of woollen fabric. At the back of the neckline is hand sewn 'U' shaped quilting. The jack fastens at the centre front, with hand made hooks and eyes, over an internal port piece Entirely hand sewn (and hand knotted). |
