This early medieval gambeson, or acheton, is made in heavy off-white linen, with a lighter weight linen lining. The gamby is straight-quilted, with three layers of woollen padding. It is knee length, and has short sleeves. This is a front fastening gambeson, which fastens with hand made hooks and eyes, over an internal port piece. The back of the gambeson is split, and there are underarm gussets, allowing full arm mobility. |
